Hi Doc, I have discovered that the St. John’s Wort I have in my backyard is the Chinese St. John’s Wort. Hypericum monogynum not Hypuricum Perforatum. It does not turn red when put into a tincture. Is there a difference in medicinal properties? Can it still be used in a glycerin tincture?

I haven’t used Hypericum monogynum but it is used. The Chinese seem to like it. It has many similar chemicals in it to H. perforatum (regular St. John’s wort) but I don’t have any experience with it to compare the two with regards to efficacy.

Don't use herbs or combine herbs with medications or use them during lactation or pregnancy without talking with your healthcare provider.
