Wondering if there are others in the northeast US – what are you harvesting and wildcrafting right now? I’m in upstate NY and about to harvest goldenrod, it is beginning to cover our hills with beautiful golden flowers. Also collecting more staghorn sumac, yarrow, comfrey and elderberries, if I can find them. The heat and lack of rain produced some very tiny berries on the elders. I think I will have to cultivate some that I can protect and water as needed if I want any. The birds have eaten so many of them.

I have a giant poke plant in my rock garden that I will take for the root. Anyone have any experience with poke root? I have some berries in my freezer, and will collect more. This plant did not suffer at all from lack of rain!

I am in south central PA.  I am harvesting calendula blossoms, oregano, lots of comfort.  I didn’t realize that goldenrod was medicinally useful!  I’ll have to find some that I can pick.

I am about to harvest marshmallow root and burdock root for the first time.  Can anyone tell me if these roots would be adversely affected by fusarium?

I’m in the Chicago area and tall goldenrod is very common here. ?

            I’m planning on gathering some.

I’m in Pennsylvania and I’ve been wildcrafting Turkey Tail mushrooms the past weekend.

I am from southern Canada, growing Zone 3a. We have a very short growing season here. Right now we are done harvesting but I have a couple pots with herbs in the basement under a growing light wich seems to work better then having the plants outside during the summer.

Sept/Oct in southeast PA – also wild-gathered goldenrod along with hickory nuts, ginkgo leaf, maitake mushrooms and one lone paw paw fruit that the squirrels missed.

SOunds like you’re all o the right track and doing good work. This time of year is great for roots. Ginkgo leaf is usually ready about now too. It’s best when it first starts to color up for the fall.

Apparently we have an arboretum full of Ginkgo.  I will have to plan a trip to get some leaves.  Thanks for the heads up.

I am in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia.  I have lots of black walnuts and also this is the time to gather rosehips.

Anyone know when to harvest pine needles?

Pine needles are fine any time.
