My son has had a cough for about a month and a half now. It’s worse in the mornings and nights. I learned about gumweed and hoping that will help him clear it up!

That’s such a bummer! How is the gumweed working?

Elderberry syrup is something kids don’t mind taking….homemade anyway. Also, wild cherry is helpful and children friendly. I think HGH has an Elderberry kit. You could look in the online store. I have a personal recipe for Sambucus (Elderberry Syrup) I am willing to share with you if you are interested, you may e-mail me…at cherylokelberry@gmail.com. I always keep it on hand.

I am also curious to know if the gumweed was helpful to your son.

I am curious to know the cause of this chronic, lingering cough.  There are some serious conditions that have the symptoms you describe.  It would be wise to have a doctor rule out something serious – like asthma, or a food allergy, for example.

There are several ways to approach a cough (have a look in the Respiratory System module)

Nerve calming herbs like wild cherry bark and mullein

Antispasmodics like gumweed and cramp bark

Michelle is right that getting a diagnosis and ruling out bad stuff for chronic issues is a really good idea too.

Anti-histamines like Brigham tea or nettles.

Then of course there are the expectorants like elecampane, gumweed etc…

Don't use herbs or combine herbs with medications or use them during lactation or pregnancy without talking with your healthcare provider.
