StudentThis happened to me with one of my fosters. I could tell the puncture wound was getting infected. I used some manuka Honey and it healed up without complications. It was even a couple of days before I treated it.
Hope this helps.

Homestead InstructorHave a look at the wound management lessons in the Diseases & Herbal Interactions Section. We talk about dog bites in those. :0)

StudentSeveral years before I found Doc Jones, my husband was bitten on the hand breaking up a dog fight between two bully pits. I was across the country and we didn’t have insurance, and he didn’t have any herbs available. I had him soak his hand in very warm/hot salt water throughout the day for several days. It healed without infection, though his knuckle (the bite involved his knuckle) is a bit larger than the others still 8 years later. Soaking in hot salt water was the preferred method to draw out infection when he was growing up in the rural (some would say “backwoods”) South.

StudentTopic AuthorUpdate on the dog bite:
I still havnt done the wound management module but what i did do worked beautifully
A friend of mine called me and asked if I could help her with a dog bite on her forearm she got 3 days prior. The puncture wounds were closed , her arm was bright red, hot ,hard , very swollen, lots of tenderness and pain. She was starting to not be able to use her hand because of the pain. I was honestly thinking she should go to the hospital (i even recommended that tbh) but she insisted to try something else because she didnt have insurance and was allergic to alot of antibiotics. So I grabbed what I had on hand and made a poultice of marshmallow, oregon grape tincture, echincea, calendula, ground flax seed, fresh oregeno ,and a tiny amount of shepards purse tincture.
5 hours later she messaged me saying the wounds reopened and alot of pus was oozing out that smelt horrible. That night she added fresh poultice and when she woke up that next morning and the redness/swelling/pain had gone down tremendously and it started ozing clear liquid.
Then about 2 days later she sent me a picture of her arm and you could clearly see that her hand was very deepy bruised and the area where I had wrapped the herbs was not. I am assuming that the shepards purse might have helped it not be so bruised?
Her arm is now healed and only has a scar.

Homestead InstructorExcellent work. That’s a good approach. One other thing that could be added is some plantain internally and topically. It’s really great for pulling toxins out of those sorts of wounds. But A+ on helping her get better. :0)
