My dad had a 30 pound pipe dropped on his big toe and part of his foot. It swelled up and his big toenail went black. I had my mom make tobacco poultices and put it on the bruised area for several days. My parents were both astounded as they continued with the tobacco poultices throughout the week because they could seek marked differences from day to day with the improvement of the swelling and the discoloration. He was up and walking around within two days and back to work in three. I know the tobacco sped up the healing remarkably.

I put the poultice on hot for 10 minutes and leave it off for 10 minutes and repeat this as often as I can throughout the day. I purchase the loose leaf tobacco from my local 7-11. I buy the Levi Garrett brand. Three ounces is currently about $22.

Yup. Tobacco has a long history of use topically for bruises and such.

It’s also a remarkable purgative. I used to do a lot of dairy work. Cows have four stomachs and occasionally twist the fourth one (displaced abomassum). I’ve done countless surgeries to fix them. When I worked with the Amish in Minnesota they’d often give a pound of sugar and a pouch of chewing tobacco to those girls and as often as not straighten things right out.

By the way, standing behind a cow that has recently ingested a bag of chewing tobacco is a really bad idea. LOL

Just checking, you mean the sugar and chewing tabacco untwisted the 4th stomach?

Yup. Tobacco causes intense contraction of the gut muscles. Sometimes it does enough of that to expel the gas untwist the abomassum. Not every time, but often enough to be worth a try.
