I have a ten year old Corgi who is becoming anxious in his elder years.  My vet recommended a ‘natural’ product that she likes to begin with before prescribing pharmaceuticals. Unfortunately Jack reacted with GI problems.  Before I entertain the idea of prozac for my dog:  what could I try plant wise for him? Thanks for any ideas!

          Hi Laura,

As a fellow Corgi parent, I am interested in the herbal responses too.  I presently have a corgi who is quite anxious during thunderstorms and a thunder shirt (while I have had great success with my other Corgi’s) does not seem to help with my present girl.

Looking forward to the feedback on this post too.

          Thanks for asking.

          Lori

            Lori:
We have a 14 year old Morkie who has issues with anxiety. We use the Rest Easy (Chamomile, Skullcap and Valerian) formula for her at night and it does seem to help.
Hope this will help your pup!

I’ve used Rest Easy Countless times on such cases.

This one is good too. https://herbpet.com/product/kalm/

Would the Adrenal Support tincture also be good for nervous dogs? If so, should it be taken over time?

I haven’t tried the adrenal support for that. The Rest Easy works great.

Another good, long-term thing would be to feed some oat straw. Oat straw unfrazzles frazzled nerves without being sedating.

I am going to try the oat straw for my adopted/rescued dog who thinks the world around him is the enemy. Maybe this will help with un-frazzling his frazzled nerves.

Thanks for this info Doc.  When you say feed the dog some oat straw, you mean straight oat straw or the tincture?

I am presuming the straight herb, correct?

Our doggo gets overly anxious on walks where he feels like everything is a threat to my children. He is on high alert.  I am going to try some of the suggestions and see if they help.

                        Thanks!
