I know you are looking to hear from Doc Jones, but I wanted to let you know about activated charcoal.  You can make it into a lemonade so that all family members can use it.  I break the capsule and start with part of it and then work up.  Make sure you do not take it within 2 hours of any other meds.

You can look this up. The Ohio EPA publishes a list of limits allowed by law of toxic compounds in drinking water. Each compound is given a MCLG rate (maximum legal limit), as well as an assigned MCLG (safe level). The safe level of the known carcinogen Vinyl Chloride is zero! As I recall, the MCLG is .02 parts per million. But go to their web site and conduct a search. Have your well water tested if you are any where near south western Ohio!

Prayers go out to all who are being affected by that horrible event.  I worry that many, many will end up with cancers and such – I wish we could somehow reach them all to let them know there are (I assume) herbal ways to stay healthy in spite of all the horrible toxic mess.  So very sad.

There isn’t an antidote per se for vinyl chloride toxicity. Charcoal can help with ingested toxins but it isn’t nearly as helpful if the toxins are getting into the body via another route. Treatment in acute cases is symptomatic ( supporting respiriation, cardiovascular function etc…) and likely requires hospital intervention.

My notes from an article by Juliane Beier (prof of medicine and environment health/Univ of Pitt) easy to search and read:

Per CDC toxicity report (their website), in outdoor air vinyl chloride becomes diluted quickly.  Sunlight breaks it down in 9-11 days.  The Clean Water Act requires its removal from municipality water supply, if they are doing their job.  The extreme danger is contamination of ground water and private wells.  It easily volatilizes when heated for cooking or showering.  The gas then accumulates in enclosed spaces like natural gas fumes.  While there are established safe exposure levels, there are none for chronic exposure.  Exposure is known to damage the liver, particularly where there is underlying liver disease.

I’d test, and filter my water whatever the test says, ventilate my home, be good to my liver, and refuse any “hold harmless” offer.  It’s our only world, we’re in this together.
