Does anyone have a good recipe for fly spray? The only store-bought ones I can find contain pyrethrins, which I would like to stay away from.

I have had some success with rose geraniums.

Okay, thank you so much! I’ll give it a try.

I use apple cider vinegar mixed with essential oils (peppermint, rosemary, and basil) to keep the flies off of my milk cow while I’m milking. It’s not effective all day, but it helps while we’re milking.

We make a homemade fly spray that contains apple cider vinegar, essential oils , distilled soap, and water and it works great.

I also have found that giving your cow garlic salt ,that Redmonds carries, helps as well as the flies don’t like the smell. I know running a fan in the barn worked well for my cow this Summer as it seemed to keep the flies off her and gave her some comfort.

Oh, what peace we often forfeit, Oh, what needless pain we bear,
All because we do not carry, everything to God in prayer!
