Hi! Yesterday, armed with my telephone, I identified the nongrass plants in the front yard grass (what grass?).  Then  my husband and I pulled 2 bags full of cudweed and false dandelion mostly as they don’t blend in but really  flatten out and spread over large areas in our yard, as the HOA will be on the prowl soon. Real dandelions seem smarter and are much more discrete because they tend to blend in with what little grass is there, so I don’t pull them.

Anyway, I checked out back this morning. Lo and behold I saw a bunch of new plants that really resembled a plantain but not one that I have seen before as it’s pretty small. The leaf didn’t seem to have the same strings…  Turns our after some confirmation from google searches that it is Plantago virginica !! Never knew it existed.

Interestingly enough, last year not one seed of Plantain (major) that I planted sprouted and none had ever been seen in my yard (in SC) so I said to my yard, will any plantain ever grow here?? It’s little sister must have heard me as I couldn’t believe my eyes…. they just appeared like magic.

Does this one have the same medicinal benefits? One would think probably yes, but better to be sure. I have researched this and found only one newspaper article and one plant person who talk about this speicific plantain but almost all websites only talk about major or lanceolata.

This might help, but not sure how trustworthy.  It sounds correct.

I’m so excited to read this post. I seriously was beginning to think that mother nature was making fun of me. I’ve also wanted to find plantago major, but keep coming across this plant in my yard. Now that I know what it is, I found this info, which I’m hoping will be helpful for you also. Thanks for posting (REDACTED By Auto-Moderator Robot)>
