I am helping teach a community class in June.  The main speaker is an allopathic doctor who is speaking on over-the-counter medicines each family should have in an emergency.  I get 20 minutes to spotlight an herb of my choice.  I have chosen mullein, as it grows freely in our area.  I can find lots of information on the healing uses of the flowers, roots and leaves of mullein.  But there’s not much on the multitudinous seeds.  Some sources say that they are narcotic.  Is that a good thing if needed, or should using the seeds be avoided?

The seeds were used by Native Americans to paralyze fishies in ponds. Quite a bit too strong for safe medicinal use in my opinion and I’ve never seen any information or data on safe use for it. Stick with the leaf, flower and root. :0)

It’s a particularly good idea to stay away for little-known herbs or herbs with little or no safety data when addressing novices. Introduce them to the old standbys that have good data and wide margins of safety.

Don't use herbs or combine herbs with medications or use them during lactation or pregnancy without talking with your healthcare provider.
