        Hello,

My sister’s horse was just diagnosed  by the vet with a football size tumor in her abdomen.  I’m not sure of the exact location, but it was discovered through a rectal exam.  The horse is 15-20 years old and in otherwise good health.  The tumor was aggravated when she was taken to breed with a stallion about 2 weeks ago. Since then, she has been in obvious pain on and off, experienced vaginal discharge, and was treated for a possible infection with penicillin.  She has also been on pain medication to keep her more comfortable.

The vet said there is nothing to do but try to keep her comfortable, he prescribed an anti-inflammatory, until the the tumor grows large enough that the pain is too much for the horse and she will have to be put down.

They are also giving her a formula that they found at the feed store which contains Devil’s Claw extract, yucca root, and turmeric.

Any other thoughts or suggestions?  This is a devastating diagnosis.

The herbs being given are good anti-inflammatories and a good idea. I use Immunity Support and Blood KLNZ to slow tumor growth and improve quality of life but it rarely makes the tumor go away. There is a cancer lesson if the vet diagnosed the actual tumor type (and if he’s sure it actually is a tumor…could be lots of other things.

Don't use herbs or combine herbs with medications or use them during lactation or pregnancy without talking with your healthcare provider.
