        Hey Doc Jones,

I recently recommended your Gall Bladder and Bile Duct formula for someone who has had a few minor gall bladder attacks over the years and wants to avoid progression of the condition. She started with 1/4 tsp once on days 1 and 2 to see if she would tolerate it well. Day 3, she took 1/4 tsp twice and on day 4 had 4-5 bowel movements (she didn’t take any of the formula that day because she was worried it was the culprit). She compared it to a colonoscopy prep. No indigestion, pain, nausea, or symptoms of a gall bladder attack. It was almost like she got a 2-for-1 colon and gall bladder clean-out. She’s not on any Rx meds, but does supplement a number of vitamins and minerals.

I’m not sure which (if any) of the herbs in the formula would cause this side effect. I thought if anything was going to give her trouble, it would be the lobelia, but an antispasmodic doesn’t seem consistent with frequent BMs. Could have been something she ate, too. Have you ever had a client have this reaction to any of the herbs in that formula? Or do you think it is just a coincidence?

        Thanks! Veronica

I associate bile stimulants with mild laxative properties, especially yellow dock.

Turmeric and ginger both increase bile production some. Bile is the body’s favorite laxative. :0)

Any time we make the liver or gall bladder happy, we’re bound to get some loosening of bowel movements as that’s one of their important jobs.

Don't use herbs or combine herbs with medications or use them during lactation or pregnancy without talking with your healthcare provider.
