Hi! I’m certainly not the person to be answering this question. However I just wanted to share something I just tried for hot flashes. I had been having them 4 or 5 times a day. Woke me up out of a dead sleep! So annoying!! I happened to have a bottle of essential oil called “Balance” from Butterfly Express. I haven’t really gotten into the oils a whole lot but I’ve been impressed by what I’ve seen so far. After all they are concentrated herbs…. 🙂 Anyway the directions said to apply to the ankles. So I did….. and I didn’t have another hot flash for 24 hours! Its was awesome! The next day I had another hot flash so I applied the oil again. Same thing! Hot flashes went away! Wow! I’m thinking I love this stuff! The reason I haven’t focused on essential oils that much is because I know they are a smaller component in the big picture of health and healing. I believe diet is #1. But herbs play a huge role in diet. They have both nutritional and medicinal qualities! So anyway that’s my story! Like I said I’m not qualified to answer your question because I’m just starng to learn about all this stuff! 🙂 But I wanted to share because I KNOW that hot flashes really stink! So perhaps this may help you too! 🙂 Good luck! I’m interested in hearing an answer to your question too!!

Jan what are the ingredients of the Balance?
Don't use herbs or combine herbs with medications or use them during lactation or pregnancy without talking with your healthcare provider.

I’ve had good luck with Black Cohosh.

Thanks for the replies. (and the move 🙂 ). I am currently taking Black Cohosh in the #18 Joint support. Do I need to increase perhaps?
Also, the essential oil sounds interesting. I will look at the ingredients on the Butterfly website. I might already have some of them.

“Balance”
chaste tree, clary sage, cypress, chamomile Egyptian, lavender, marjoram, myrtle, peppermint, rose geranium, sage, yarrow, ylang ylang.
My question is (I always wonder this about essential oil blends) if there are too many herbs combined doesn’t that lessen the effect of each herb? I read somewhere that it’s not as good to combined too many herbs in one dose. Maybe that’s just if you’re taking it internally though… ??

After looking at the ingredients, I was wondering if it was the chaste tree that worked to control the hot flashes. I have always (well, nearly always) loved essential oils cuz the smell just makes me smile. But, herbs are the workhorses for me if I want to do something specific.
