I also want to make a tincture of Hawthorn. 40% 4:1 ratio? And what about combining with motherwort or is it better to keep separate?

First, I like to keep my herbs separate unless it is for a long term use combination. Once combined they cannot be separated!

The ratio depends on if the material is fresh or dry. Most fresh material tinctures are done at a 1:2 ratio. Would also suggest a higher proof hooch since the plant will release its own water into the mix.

this is the dried hawthorn berries, ground into a powder.

I usually get a 1:3 to 1:5 ratio out of my dried and ground herbs. All depends on how fine I can get them ground up.
