I have a co-worker that has had a persistent tickle in his lungs and congestion in his upper respiratory area. He pointed to the left side near the center of his chest for the tickle. I have given him some gumweed and he really likes that it moves things out and actually helps him to sing better now.

        But the tickle persists.

My thoughts then went to elecampane and mullein. I made a 1:1 for him. He tried it but he says it makes his lungs feel chilled and is uncomfortable. This is a good thing as he did get a result. How can I “warm” it up for him? Yarrow comes to mind, and cayenne.

Any other suggestions either for this combination or some other approach?

Either yarrow or cayenne will warm things up and both are good expectorants.

Maybe try the mullein and elecampane separately and see if he can tell which he doesn’t like.

Maybe try the good ol Peppermint, Yarrow Elder combo.

Licorice is a good expectorant as well and may be soothing and calm whatever he’s feeling from the Mullein/elecampane.

Thanks. Good idea to try them separately. I wanted to include the mullein to try to facilitate healing in the lungs.

Comfrey is also a good expectorant and would promote lung healing.

I gave him a 1:1:1 dose of Elecampane, Mullein and Yarrow right before I left work. I will find out if that made any difference with him in the morning.

While discussing it with him I found out that the coolness he felt was not offensive to him. I guess I misinterpreted his feedback.
