I’m looking for any advice/thoughts on herbal approaches to helping our Tibetan spaniel pup, Luna (eight months old, on the right in the attached photo, for those who like visuals 🙂 ) heal up a torn nail.
Best we could see, it’s a visible crack along the base, with the nail not displaced — not that that stopped it from bleeding like a mortal wound and sending her into doing a puppy’s oh-god-I’m-hurt-somewhere shrieking for what felt like forever. We’ve already been to the vet, who found it was securely enough attached to leave alone, bandaged it up, and sent us home with antibiotics and pain meds.
Being a budding herbalist, though, I can’t just leave it at that. For one thing, that bandage isn’t going to stay put for very long… Any thoughts on what I can do to speed her healing along, please? :notworthy:
She won’t let me touch the foot (I could press the issue if need be, of course), but she is OK with the foot being dunked in liquid — so I’m thinking a yarrow, maybe also comfrey, soak? Maybe some valerian tincture orally to take her anxiety down a notch, because she’s aggressing on our other pups at the moment if they so much as look sideways at her foot.
She’s already on the Silver Lining Herbs #10 (Canine Foundation).
