My niece just emailed and asked me about herbs for anxiety. I figure this is a good time to learn it–since I don’t know it yet. So, I’m asking again.

Which of the hypnotics would you suggest for mild anxiety attacks and stress? Any of them?

And, is one better than another for when an attack is coming on (that could be taken in the moment) to relieve symptoms?

Thanks again for answering all my questions. I’m grateful to be learning so much about herbs.

Skullcap is my personal favorite. Lemon balm, chamomile, and hops go nicely with it also, or individually/instead of. My own personal blend that I’ve labelled “nerve tonic” is comprised of lemon balm, chamomile, hops, and skullcap. It makes a lovely cup of bedtime tea.

Another one I like is just to infuse either a few leaves of lemon balm or a spring of lavender in my bottle of ice water to sip throughout the day. It helps to steady the nerves and induce a feeling of serenity without undue drowsiness.

All of the above are good. Valerian is particularly effective for acute “panic” situations as well.

I’ve used both of these formulas on folks and on dogs.

Sometimes one or the other does the trick. Sometimes the combination does it.

Don't use herbs or combine herbs with medications or use them during lactation or pregnancy without talking with your healthcare provider.

I like Ocimum sanctum, Holy Basil, as a tonic.

I think that anxiety can lead to destroying consequences! We have to keep ourselves in calm!
