I recently started drinking mugwort tea for insomnia, for which I have found it effective. But after about a week of drinking the tea I got a burst blood vessel in my eye, which has never happened to me before.

Not sure if there is any connection, but after a little research, I found several herbal sites (not all of them) warn against using mugwort with blood thinners. One site says not to use mugwort with Wafarin, because Wafarin is actually derived from mugwort – though I have not been able to verify this, and have no idea if it is true. Does anyone here have information on this?

I do not take any medical blood thinners, but I do take tumeric, which I understand, also has blood thinning properties – and it appears that people on blood thinners are more at risk for burst blood vessels.

So this has got me wondering about my recent burst blood vessel, and if the mugwort tea in addition to my daily tumeric supplementation, could have had any influence.

Thanks to anyone who can provide more info on this!

There are a lot of herbs that have some blood-thinning properties. Mugwort (Artemisa vulgaris) is one of them. They shouldn’t be combined with pharmaceutical blood thinners.

I’ve never heard of anyone having issues with these plants on their own causing problems. I suppose if one were to combine several of them at high doses or for a long time they may cause some effect but, as I said, I’ve never heard of such happening.
