Hypericum calycinum, commonly known as Rose of Sharon or Aaron’s Beard, is primarily grown as an ornamental plant and isn’t widely used for its medicinal properties. Hibiscus syriacus is another species which is commonly called rose of Sharon. It also isn’t great medicinally.

Don't use herbs or combine herbs with medications or use them during lactation or pregnancy without talking with your healthcare provider.

Hypericum perforatum is St. John’s wort. I found conflicting information on the hypericum calycinum (common names include rose of Sharon, Aaron’s beard, creeping St. John’s wort, and Jerusalem star). It is in the same family, but some say it’s toxic. The only use I could find for it is ornamental and landscaping.

Common names mean nothing. Stick to the Latin and you’ll get what you think you’re getting.
