        Doc,

When making medicine with comfrey is it just the root and/or leaves that are used or can the stems & flowers be used as well?

Both are good. The root is stronger.

          Comfrey (Symphytum officinale)

Don't use herbs or combine herbs with medications or use them during lactation or pregnancy without talking with your healthcare provider.

I made a comfrey leaf infused oil that I have been using for my very sore and dry lips – but sadly, it hasn’t helped.  Maybe there is something that might be better?  There are no sores like a herpes thing – but they just hurt all the time… Thanks!

I use comfrey for sore muscle and bone pains/injuries. After moving to Arizona 7 years ago  I had problems with sore cracking lips for several years. For a while I used all kinds of lip ointments but no luck. Then I began to use magnesium oil (half water and half magnesium salts) but just putting some on my lips whenever they were sore and after a few weeks my sore and cracking lips were healed and I have not had to use the oil since then.

EWWW John!!  I’ve gotten Magnesium oil on my hands and put my finger to my lips or in my mouth before and it’s a “gagger” for me!  As much as I’d love to heal my lips like you did, it makes me recoil – it’s just awful tasting!  Now I will add that mine is the ready made “magnesium oil” that works great on leg cramps – and it might be a different formulation than you are using.  Got any other great options LOL!?

I wonder if some of Doc’s formulas (like Periodontal and Poultice) that call for the root could be made with the leaves and still be as effective.  Anyone know the answer to that?
