        Hi Doc,

What are your thoughts on taking cayenne while on blood pressure meds? I know several people who would like to control their blood pressure naturally by trying something like cayenne, with the goal of eventually getting off their meds altogether. I am hesitant to recommend it as I know that blood pressure is very important to keep under control, and wasn’t sure how cayenne would interact with meds to control it.

As far as I understand it cayenne is very beneficial for blood pressure. However it will increase the effectiveness of all medication a person is taking, which could be risky. It may be that taking the cayenne separately from meds could lesson the impact on meds. Checking with a professional would be a good idea.  Garlic and Hawthorn are safe and effective herbs to assist in strengthening the vascular system. Garlic could be taken as a warm infusion so as to harness all of the chemical components. My method for the garlic tea is to smash non irritated organic  cloves, 3 of them, and let then sit for 15 minutes in a cup. After that I pour  very hot water into the cup and let it sit and additional 15 minutes. Drinking this tea 3 times a day is for your vascular system like cleaning out an overstuffed disorganized closet and creating open organized spaces so work can be done efficiently😉. As is true with all bodily  nourishment changes come about gradually.

We are about to launch an amazing new lesson on Hypertension that my wife just completed. She’s a naturopath and midwife that has had some significant impacts on blood pressure due to things she discusses in that lesson. It’ll be up in a few days I’d bet.

I created the page for it. It will be here:

            High Blood Pressure (Hypertension)

Cayenne can interact with several types of blood pressure meds:

            1. Calcium Channel Blockers: These medications, like amlodipine and nifedipine, work by relaxing blood vessels and reducing blood pressure. Combining them with cayenne’s vasodilatory effects could potentially lead to excessive blood vessel relaxation and a drop in blood pressure.
            2. ACE Inhibitors: Medications like lisinopril and enalapril are used to lower blood pressure by inhibiting the production of angiotensin, a hormone that constricts blood vessels. Cayenne’s vasodilatory effects might add to the blood vessel relaxation caused by these medications.
            3. Beta-Blockers: These medications, such as metoprolol and propranolol, reduce heart rate and blood pressure by blocking certain hormones. Combining them with cayenne might affect heart rate and blood pressure regulation.

Don't use herbs or combine herbs with medications or use them during lactation or pregnancy without talking with your healthcare provider.

Thanks for this post. I also take BP meds and had the same question. Maybe the new module Doc refered to will shed some light.
