Hello everyone!
Last year I grew loofah gourds for the first time.
I harvested the gourds at the end of the season and was able to turn them into a unique gift for family and friends. I haven’t been much of a fan of loofah’s because most I’ve had were some type of plastic and felt slimy and gross after a couple uses. The natural fiber of the loofah gourd is PERFECT and holds up for a long time. They can easily be disinfected as needed using a diluted solution of bleach and water. The vines can grow up to 100ft and cling to everything they come into contact with so containing it was a bit of a challenge at first. The blooms are bright yellow and BEAUTIFUL. The humming birds especially love them too. I found that the loofah is not only good for showering with and scrubbing the dirt off my hands after a day of gardening but it’s great for using as a scouring pad for dishes/pots and pans. Hope this peaked your interest in trying to grow it as well!
Happy growing!!
