Does anyone know which herbs will increase blood pressure?

Secondly, is it true that licorice increases blood pressure? (If so, that’s great, but I need an herb that is not cathartic:)

          Hi Annett,

Cayenne pepper is a good one to help regulate blood pressure too, whether it’s low or high.

There’s information about blood pressure in the Cardiovascular System module. Some herbs that Dr. Jones like to use in low blood pressure cases can be found in the Blood, Heart, Circulatory & Lymphatic Formulas, in the Formulas and Formulations module. There’s a formula called Blood Pressure Low that may be of interest to you. More information can be found about the actions, etc…on individual plants in the Individual Plant Monograph module, if you’d like to look them up after checking out the formula for low blood pressure for more specifics on each one.

          Hope that helps. 🙂

I’ve heard multiple times that licorice increases blood pressure. I wonder if you could take it in conjunction with another herb to offset those effects you don’t want.

Don't use herbs or combine herbs with medications or use them during lactation or pregnancy without talking with your healthcare provider.

                  Thanks Doc,

Do you mind explaining each herb in the Blood Pressure Low formula? What each does?

And what could be used in place of cayenne pepper for a person who needs to be nightshade free?
