        Greetings to one and all,

I am new to herbalism this year and a one week old student of “The Homegrown Herbalist”.  I just watched the comfrey video with Doc Jones on YouTube. I read through the postings on canker sores and didn’t see this question asked. (I’m still trying to learn this software system) In the comfrey video there was reference to comfrey treating canker sores. Could I use a q-tip to apply comfrey tincture directly on a canker sore to hopefully shorten its life cycle? All my life I’ve tried everything on the market to deal with canker sores and nothing has ever worked. I’ve never tried herbs, there must be something out there that would help alleviate the curse of canker sores. Any suggestions welcomed. Thank you.

That is a great question, I am curious as well.

Thank you for asking this question! I grew up with Comfrey in the garden. I currently have a good sized bed of Comfrey. My knowledge of its benefits is very limited.  So I’m eager to see the answers you get!

I’ve never tried comfrey on canker sores but marshmallow root has worked for me every time.  I dab some powder on the sore but my daughter prefers the tincture.  I put it on at bedtime (or whenever needed) and it usually stops the pain by morning and then heals completely in a couple of days (as long as I get it before it gets too large).  Something has changed so that after frequently suffering with them over the past 60 years I rarely get them at all anymore.  I’m guessing it’s because of some of the herbs I’ve been using in the past few years but I couldn’t tell you which one/s.
