One of my horses just seems to get fat on air, the other two live and eat the same way, I haven’t had the bloodwork done yet but my vet agrees EMS is a good possibility.  She doesn’t get much at all for grain about a cup & 1/2 per day, grass hay when there isn’t adequate pasture in the winter, she is 14 now and recently had a bout of laminitis (second time in 2 years almost to the date). Wondering what herbs could work to help level her out?

Magnesium helps metabolize the sugars in the grains and grasses. Even grass hay can be high in sugar. A good resource is  Gravel Proof Hoof website. Has many resources and information on feeding.
I feed magnesium twice a day at the moment as in Australia we have had a LOT of summer rain which means sweet grass everywhere. Short stressed pasture can also cause laminitis and other metabolic issues. Hope this helps. We never stop learning or looking for solutions when it comes to our fur family. 😊

Thanks so much for the response, I am checking it out! I just ordered a feed that comes from Australia that is geared toward ems horses.  I am also taking a course from Elisha Edwards that is specifically for treating & preventing ems.

I have a horse with equine metabolic syndrome. I will try magnesium to see if it helps. Thank you I hadn’t heard that before.
