        Hello everyone!

If you were going to make an herbal “multivitamin” tincture, what herbs would you use?

May His face shine upon you, Natashia

The first thing that comes to mind is the Nutritive powder. The description on the product says, “The HomeGrown Herbalist Nutritive Formula is a combination of plants (roots, leaves and seeds) rich in nutrients that support the body’s functions and activities in all conditions”

Yes, but if I recall what I’ve read somewhere (here or elsewhere), vitamins and minerals don’t extract with alcohol.  So I think his nutritive powder is probably best used AS a powder.  I would love to be wrong about this as I am probably better at taking many tinctures than I am at taking powders (even in a smoothie).  Hope Doc has some time to chime in and set me straight if I’m wrong.

Interesting! I’ll have to look into this more. Like you, I prefer tinctures. They are easier to take AND, I like them because they last a long time, compared to powders.

Some do. Some don’t. Depends on the mineral or vitamin. The powder is a much better vehicle than the tincture for nutritives.

Don't use herbs or combine herbs with medications or use them during lactation or pregnancy without talking with your healthcare provider.

I was just coming in to follow up on this. 🙂 I’m going through the Herb Forms and Dosing lesson, and it says, “Herbs which are being used as nutritives are often best used as powders because the powder is the only form that retains the valuable dietery fiber from the plants.” So the Nutritive formula is best in powder form.

                    Hello!

I too was interested in how to make an herbal multivitamin. I think nettle would be a great plant to tincture 🙂 I am looking into some more beneficial, highly nutritive herbs as well. Perhaps dandelion and alfalfa?

Rebecca – I could easily be wrong, but from what I’ve read, tinctures will not extract vitamins and minerals. I think (again, I could be wrong), that extracts using ACV rather than alcohol will pull out vitamins and minerals though. Of course in my opinion, they taste way worse than a tincture (alcohol)!

Sharon, I believe you are correct. “tinctures will not extract vitamins and minerals” I think the powders are recommended more so.
