Ok. I have read on here that purchased herbs should be used within a year. I have some herbs that are unopened and at least a few years old. Does that mean they are worthless? Should I just throw them away? That seems wasteful, since I have quite a bit of money in them. Is there any good way to use them up? Maybe they can be made into something that is partly good. Is there any harm in using them?

Hi Joyce, yeah  you can still use them, they just won’t be as strong medicinally as fresher herbs. I would just start using them up but if you want to get a lot of medicine out of it, you’ll probably have to use a lot.

Yup. Greg is right. They’ll just have lost some of their strength.  I certainly wouldn’t make tinctures of them at this point.

Don't use herbs or combine herbs with medications or use them during lactation or pregnancy without talking with your healthcare provider.
