My black Lab has her first ear infection at the age of seven.  I was wondering if there is a homemade version of the ear flush that does not contain alcohol and is still suitable to clean her ears.  Is there an herbal treatment for the infection itself, or do I need to stick with the drops from the vet’s office?

I am just getting started, and want to do right by my dog.

        Thank you,

        Jenny Fryar

How bad is the ear infection? Has it affect his balance at all or just annoying him? I have a friend that flush the ear with colloidal silver with good success. But some herbal tea rinses (calendula?) maybe would be good too if you want to avoid alcohol tinctures.

Patrick is particularly fond of using calendula in dog ears.  You can make a tea and keep it in the fridge for several days.

The other day I saw a video that Doc Jones did about earaches. Taking an onion and mashing it up and getting the juice and putting into the ear. I know he was talking about humans in this regard, but I was wondering about ear infections in dogs. I know that dogs CAN NOT have onions to eat, but can it be used for the ear infections as a remedy???  I also have a lab and she sometimes gets infections. Making  her a healthy home-cooked diet has helped so much.

Any feed back on using onion juice for dog ear infections would be much appreciated!
