My 3 year-old male cat has been diagnosed with feline asthma. The vet is prescribing the following:

oral steroid 2x daily until symptoms subside, then slowly decrease to lowest effective dose.

inhailer daily until symptoms subside, then as needed

an antibiotic to address any possible secondary infections

lung worm medication to ensure that is not a complicating factor

It is the long-term use of the steroids (oral and inhailer administration) that has me looking for suggestions from this community. Our cats are loving and affectionate (on their terms), but are pretty “free range”. We typically cannot pick them up and hold onto them for any length of time. I’m not sure what quality of life we or the poor cat will have with the pharmaceutical approach, and the vet is not open to herbal intervention.

I have had good success with getting the cats to eat various things that are not their favorite by mixing it in to their favorite meal (costco chicken pureed in rich bone broth with a liver included for additional nutrition and complimented with a squirt of salmon oil at the time of serving)

Any suggestions for dietary supplements that I could add to their food to directly reduce inflamation, address the asthma symptoms, and just improve nutrition to bolster their own innate ability to heal would be much appreciated.

Would it be effective to use Doc’s Respiratory AZMA formula in a glycerine tincture to see if I could get that hidden away in his breakfast or dinner?

BTW, he is already a butterball, and the steroids have given him a ravenous appetite.

I’ve treated a lot of cats with feline asthma with the Respiratory AZMA formula. It can be used as needed or given twice daily as a preventative.

I usually use the tincture version in cats.

Don't use herbs or combine herbs with medications or use them during lactation or pregnancy without talking with your healthcare provider.
