StudentHi, I need help! A dear friend reached out because her almost-9 year old daughter has had a strep throat infection constantly since the end of December. She has had 3 rounds of 3 different abx: 10 days on, 3 days off–infection flareup, 10 days on a different one, 3 days off–flareup again, repeat. Today she had another flareup, strep-positive. My friend avoids abx if possible, so this is really devastating to her. She asked if there is anything I can recommend, that she will try anything to help her daughter.
I have some of the herbs in the bugbuster formula – calendula, chaparral, oregon grape, echinacea, and she has garlic; and I have a lot of the immune boosting herbs.
I’m open to any advice and to cautions on what NOT to give a child, and the questions I should be asking in such a case. Thanks in advance!

StudentTopic AuthorRight now I’m taking her some immune boosting herbs and basically the bug buster formula minus myrrh. I’m looking for blessed thistle at the herb shop today as I know that has specific actions. And I’m putting together herbs for the sore throat: licorice root, marshmallow root, mullein to make a tea.
I’m still looking for advice. I’m so new to this, I’m afraid of harming and not helping!

StudentKelly, I appreciate your question and VERY SORRY for the little one experiencing this painful and uncomfortable condition! I would have suggested some of the very herbs you have selected, but I, too have experienced this same issue involving our grandchildren! I will be watching responses on this post!! Thank You!!

StudentThis was my life as a kid. I got really messed up from antibiotics at least every month from strep. It took me until my late 20s to find the gluten allergy that was the source. I suggest food allergy testing. Clove oil and throat coat tea helps with the pain. Mostly finding the source is going to help in the long run.

StudentOne additional note I will make to your post is that with the use of multiple antibiotics, there could be a need to replenish the “good gut bugs” that possibly may be impacted. So I would recommend nourishing pro-biotics that children would possibly consume that could help in fighting the condition.

StudentTopic AuthorI was thinking the same thing. Her mom said she is feeding her lots of raw garlic, which I know has inulin. And they eat freshly milled wheat bread, which has inulin and good gut fiber too. I know they eat fermented foods, but I will have to check back to see if they are actively doing that now though. Unfortunately they just caught a stomach bug too! I’m praying they find relief from the herbs or any other way!
