My plant identifier tells me that I have a certain species of the Reishi mushroom.  I am learning that Reishi is very good medicinally, however I don’t know and can’t find out much about this variety.  Does anybody have any ideas or knowledge?  Is one Reishi as good as another?  The one I have is about 2 feet approximately and I’d love to tincture it for use.

Lucky you- ganoderma species are all highly regarded medicine.  TCM even specifies what color reishi from what host tree to use per ailment.

Check for bugs or rot before you harvest and take no more than one-third of what’s available.  Clean, slice and dry it at low-warm temperature.  When dried, freeze for at least three days to kill off any larvae – even if its store bought reishi.  To maximize for triterpenes and beta-glucans, you’ll want to teach yourself a double extraction method and appropriately combine the resulting tea and tincture.  Pressure cookers are handy for this.  Enjoy your reishi adventure
