My mom asked me the other day if alcohol retains its own properties after tincturing. She has Type 1 diabetes and is worried about 1) blood sugar spikes and 2) judgment impairment/brain fog if she takes tinctures. My theory is that 30 drops of plant-infused vodka will not do anywhere near (or any at all of) what, say, a glass of straight vodka would, but I’m not 100% sure of that.

I did watch the lesson in the school on making tinctures/glycerites/vinegars; the section on how to extract the alcohol from a tincture was somewhat helpful, but it did not answer my actual question. Thoughts?

Also, this is a slightly different topic, but on the subject of removing the alcohol from a tincture and replacing it with glycerin–wouldn’t that decrease the tincture’s effectiveness, since alcohol was what was used to extract the medicine from the plant? How does that work?

I’ve heard that some people will put alcohol-based tincture into hot liquid such as a tea, theoretically allowing some of the alcohol to evaporate before consuming.  Wonder if that works.
