How do you help a recovering alcoholic? Dr. Mercola recommended

St. John’s wort, Milk thistle, Passion flower,  Ginseng and Cayenne pepper – Anything else I should add to that tincture?

Hi Dorothea, That was an interesting article today; I rec’d it too. He seemed to focus primarily on diet/supplements which seem quite important based on this article. I was just wondering if you should stay away from tincture while this person is trying to quit alcohol. Maybe offer glycerite? And be sure to clear the contraindications for St Johns Wort as there could be a conflict with other meds or bipolar diagnosis. The doctor also recommended Kudzu in his article.  I’m interested to hear Doc Jones’ response to this inquiry as I was thinking Lobelia is good with nicotine (binds with same receptors) would Hops then help for alcohol (binds pain receptors)? Skullcap or Kava Kava for GABA receptors and general stress/relaxation? Also, wonder if Milk Thistle seed might be better use as a whole food additive in a smoothie or such.   I wish you much success on this.
