We recently rescued a German Shepherd dog that was hours away from being euthanized.  She’s a great dog, but my husband is getting frustrated with the brown spots in the lawn where she urinates.  Is there something that will help ?  I looked at Dog Rocks for the water bowl, but they look problematic for the dog’s health.  We have spring water, right out of a mountain, and I’m not sure of the nitrate level.  Help please!

First thing that you want to do is water the area very well to dilute some of the nitrogen and salts. Then if the grass is dead remove it and use a mix of peat moss and top soil to help neutralize the acid in the soil before reseeding. I’ve also known people to use pulverized lime to help balance the pH but you’ll want to do a soil test. Hope that helps.

Hi Laura, We used a splash of tomato juice in the dog food in the passed with good luck on our spayed female dogs. The last few years we have been trying a product called” GrassSaver” by NaturVet, who also make a yard spray to green up the yellow spots. I hope one of these works for yall 🙂
