StudentHello everyone!
I have a question regarding chamomile and growing it by seed. For the past five years I have tried to grow chamomile from seed and it only grows to a height of 3 inches- if even that tall! I have purchased chamomile seeds from Strictly Medicinal, Johnny’s Seed Company and Baker Creek Seed Company but none of them get tall enough to produce flowers. I plant my seeds in the spring, when it is cool out, and in full sun with light watering when necessary. If someone knows the reason why my chamomile isn’t growing to mature height could you please post below? I really want to grow this herb but for some reason I just cannot get it to grow and I just do not know why. I can grow any other herb with luck but chamomile has been the one herb that will not grow for me.
Thanks in advance for any helpful growing tips! 🙂

StudentI had the same issue this year with my Gumweed and Fenugreek, my thoughts are that the soil is not what they like and thrive in. Also, look at companion planting to help your plants grow, this link has some tips on what to pair with chamomile https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/edible/herbs/chamomile/chamomile-plant-companions.htm
Our roman chamomile has thrived and we have it planted with some onions. We also got our seeds from strictlymedicinalseeds -

StudentTopic AuthorThank you Greg for replying! I will try again next year and see if I get any luck! I do know that our soil is in amazing condition because we had it tested and I have already tried planting chamomile in different areas on my property to see if that was why it was not growing well. No matter where I plant chamomile it never reaches full maturity and I have never been able to harvest it. However, I will try companion planting and see if this works! Thanks for the tips!

StudentYeah for sure. Our soil that we plant in is really good, but maybe the PH level is at a different spot than what your chamomile likes? I have no idea, just taking a guess. Weird that you’ve tried it in different spots and still no luck, that indicates it probably wouldn’t be a sun issue either. Have you been trying to grow German or Roman Chamomile?

StudentTopic AuthorI have been trying to grow German chamomile because it is an annual. Maybe I should switch to Roman chamomile and see if that grows better. It is possible the soil pH isn’t quite suitable for German chamomile but everything else in our garden grows amazing so I do not think that is the reason. I will just keep trying and maybe growing Roman chamomile will work better!

StudentIt’s worth a shot! I’ll try and save some seeds from our plant as it’s been really successful and it’s our first year growing it. If i can I’ll send some over
