StudentSmall dog, lost 3 pounds in last 3 months. No appetite, has to force her to take prescription for appetite stimulation. Dog eats then later throws it up. Vet said she needs dialysis but not an option for dogs. See below for meds prescribed and lab tests. Is there herbs that will give hope for her kidneys to heal. It is hard to force your pet to take medicine that doesn’t seem to help. Could she crush the med, put it in water or some liquid and squirt it down her throat? If no hope is there something that will ease the process?
Famotidine 10mg tab, give 1/2 tab q 12 to 24 hours for gastritis
Cerena 16mg tab, give 1 tab q day for vomiting.
Ondansetron 4mg tabs q 24 to 48 hours, prn.
Entyce oral solution 10ml. Give 0.6ml po daily for appetite stimulation.
LABS:
SDMA S/B 0-14. is 46
CREA s/b 0.5-1.8 is 12.
BUN s/b 2-27. Is 130
PHOS s/b 2.5- 6.8. Is 8.2

StudentTopic AuthorEmma is a 13 pound, 13.5 year old, MinPin Terrior. In April she weighed 16.8 pounds. For past 2-3 weeks Emma has been refusing to eat much, some days not eating anything, even treats. Totally not her usual appetite. Frequently vomiting bile, regurgitating eaten foods. Has been drinking water and peeing. Usually has 1 small to medium bm daily. Have been getting darker than normal. Has "metallic" odor, sometimes very pronounced. On July 20, 2024 we believe Emma was stung by a ground bee. Gene removed what he said was a stinger but I did not see it after it was removed. On her it looked like a small blood blister. Everything else kind of progressed around/after that time. This afternoon I gave her dose of anti- inflammatory med, crushed with water via oral syring, followed by Entyce. 1/2 hour later she vomited large amount bile. Has not eaten anything today. Is still drinking and peeing.

StudentI don’t have personal experience and I am a student also, but maybe look at Doc’s “kidney builder” in the online store. You would have to check with your vet to make sure the meds won’t interact with those herbs. I have also heard that a higher protein lower carb food helps with the dogs. And more fresh than kibble. Hope this helps.

StudentNo replies? How is your dog doing? I was able to reverse my hubby’s near kidney failure with 2 of Doc Jones products. Post your answer here? I will check back…

Homestead InstructorKidney Builder would be my only suggestion. Sometimes it helps a lot. Just depends on the case.
Don't use herbs or combine herbs with medications or use them during lactation or pregnancy without talking with your healthcare provider.
