Hi all.  I know that garlic is akin to almost magic in that it helps so many things in our bodies.  I grew lots of garlic this year and now have a lot more than we need for cooking, so I’m looking for the best bang for my garlic buck.  But here the strange thing for me…  I can put quite a bit of fresh garlic in my dinner and not taste it (nor can hubby), but any formula with garlic in the tincture has such a terrible taste to me that it almost makes me gag.  Any wonderful ideas to utilize the amazing benefits of garlic without the “gagging tincture” issue?  I want to include it in my health program – somehow… It’s very odd that the tinctures with garlic are gross to my supertaster taste buds, but somehow they can’t find the garlic in my food.  I do better with it raw just from the bulb than in a tincture, but don’t like that version very much either.  I wish I could give my extra taste buds to my hubby who lost his with that stupid virus!  Thanks!

I have a friend that put minced garlic in a jar with local raw honey and ate a teaspoon every morning. Used it to keep his immune system up to par. The honey should cover the taste of the garlic. You could also put it in a morning smoothie with other healthy things to cover the taste. I love the taste of garlic and can’t taste it in my food either, even when I am trying to make garlic bread the garlic taste is so mild.

Nancy – I tried that and still have them in the pantry after almost a year – couldn’t stand the taste after a couple of weeks of it “fermenting”, and now I’m not brave enough to taste that “terrible to me” taste again – so I’m not sure what to do with those either.  Might try adding a couple into a smoothie though.  It might cover it up.  I really thought the honey would make them palatable, but not for me.  Oddly, when I use store bought garlic salt on stuff, we can both taste it then – I’m stumped!

Well, if it doesn’t taste weird in your food, I would just keep doing that. I would just mince a bulb and throw it on your dinner and do the same for your husband! As Hippocrates said “Let thy medicine be thy food and thy food be thy medicine”

However, if you are just looking for ideas, I suppose you could mince it and then put it into some capsules and take them that way too

I filled a quart jar with peeled garlic cloves, covered that with raw apple cider vinegar and let it sit and ferment on a dark shelf for 4 months.  The fermentation made the garlic taste quite sweet and the cloves are a nice addition to salads.  Or, we just scoop them up from the jar to our mouths!  Delicious!

Laura, you must like ACV alone.  I call ACV “buffalo pee” cuz I have a vivid imagination and it tastes horrible to me.  I so wish I had NORMAL taste buds!  I even have trouble taking ACV medicinally like when I have gout – it’s something I dread – really dread!

We add a teaspoon of minced garlic to our chicken’s water bowl.  As far as ACV goes, I add a half teaspoon per gallon of my fall honeybee feed.
