Ok, so we were out foraging today and it turns out that the previously OVERLY abundant gumweed population rapidly has all but vanished. Meaning that the flower petals are pretty much gone and shriveled, but the STICKY remains on the leaves and what is left of the flower. Will it still be good for medicine at this point, and if not, why not? Hubby believes that the medicine is basically in the sticky goo, but I’m not sure I believe that. I hate to waste my alcohol, but this will be the second run for the alcohol anyway – the first one was 3 weeks ago (time just shot right by us when we were busy with other stuff) and I didn’t feel that it was strong enough, so I strained off the first batch of gumweed flowers, and think that using the alcohol from the first batch to macerate the second batch in might make it better (in other words, using the alcohol a second time). Thoughts on all this!? Thanks in advance.
