I know that everything says “it’s best to use fresh” – but I purchased some and they arrived as dry as bones, so is the dried St John’s Wort of any medicinal value? It just kills me to see the whole lot get tossed or composted if there is any value in it. Perhaps done as “fractionated tincturing” (running a second batch of the herb in the original alcohol to make it stronger)?? Thanks for anyone who can direct me with this.

I was talking to a naturopath a week or so ago and he seemed to think dried St John’s Wort was fine to use. It may not be as potent as fresh, but still worth using

I guess 40% vodka now that it’s dry? Maybe Doc Jones can chime in here?

Oh man, I love my dried St. Johns wort! I have used it for a nerve pulstice with amazing results.

Thanks Stephanie – Since hops works on my painful and ornery back pretty well, I’m hoping that this will do at least as well. Perhaps a blend of the two if it is a good nervine (made from dry herbs). Nothing ventured, nothing gained – right!? How are you using it as a poultice if you don’t mind me asking?

I hope it helps! I am sorry you are in pain, I hope you find answers. In the past I had back pain that kept me up most nights. I found that when I cut out refined sugars and processed foods the pain went to nearly nothing or absolutely nothing. You got this!
I burned a big chunk of my arm on my tea kettle and I quickly made a pulstice out of st. Johns wort and other herbs. It worked so well I sell the blend with my little herb shop blends. I have also used it for nerve damage I had in my digestive system. I believe it’s very helpful for depression if used wisely.❤️

I have done the sugar thing before, but no help there because my issue is structural – I have severe scoliosis with curvature and a twist as well. So as I get older, it gets worse. Hops helps, but nothing makes it completely go away. If Doc has any great ideas here for my chronic almost debilitating pain, I would be greatful!

I’ve used it dried for years.
