StudentI have learned about herbs for a long time but the actual using them is intimidating to me and have yet to put knowledge to use. So, thus my question; How do I know how to prepare the herbs Dr. Jones lists?

StudentWell it all depends on what you want to do with them. The thing most people do regularly is to make a tea out of them. Here’s how I make my teas: first off, all of my herbs are in a powder form (I dried them and then put them in a blender to get them to that state) so I bought some unbleached tea bags off of amazon. So depending on what I want, I take a teaspoon of the herb and put it into the bag and pour hot water over it until it fills my cup. Once it’s full, I’ll usually put a saucer or small plate on top of it to keep any of the oils from evaporating while the tea steeps. Usually after about 15ish minutes, I’ll come back and my tea is ready for my enjoyment! I recommend you check out this series of lessons in the course for more information, but that should be enough confidence to get you started in the wonderful art of making your own herbal remedies!

StudentGood afternoon, Greg.
When you make a tea, you say you use powdered herbs. Do you feel this is better than chopped? I want to mix a tea formula together (about of pound total) for my daughter-in-law to have so she can pull from the jar to make some tea every day.

StudentSo the main reason I use powdered herbs is because I don’t have a lot of space to store my herbs, so if I want the largest amount of herbs I can, I have to powder them as it drastically reduces their size. What would take me a few quart jars to contain the dried herb, I can fit down into one with some space left over. It is also a lot easier for me to control how much I put into my tea bags, since just using dried herbs can be a bit more guesswork. However, the system that works best for you is going to be the one you play around with the most, maybe just using dried herbs will work better for you, but play around with it and see what you like doing best!
