My dad who is about 52 years of age has an infection on his inner left calf. It started with a hole that formed somehow. he has a metal plate in his left ankle due to breaking it some time ago. but his lymph nodes were never repaired from the plate surgery therefore giving his leg poor lymphatic circulation & drainage. the infection on the skin of his inner calf is very red, a little purple and agitated. The skin is flaking and peeling, and the infected area is very itchy. He says there are good and bad days when the pain will be more or less. He was put on antibiotics for about a week, but it didn’t make anything better. The doctor is confused on what it could be, but they did say it might be a form of cellulitis? we just don’t know what to do to make it any better.

I recall Doc telling a story of an old lady that had her leg (that the docs wanted to amputate) put in a 5 gallon bucket filled with water and mallow a few times a day and it healed up the infection in her leg. I would try that out, seems easy enough

My guess (and I’m fairly new at this) would be calendula.  It has a lot of properties that could be of benefit.  I would think an oil or salve would be good as well as an internal tea or tincture at the same time.  Anti-inflammatory, collagen building too.  My wife had that a few years back and the doctors almost killed her.  They said unless it responded to the strongest antibiotic they had they would have to take her leg off.  After all that it turned out she had 3 different type bacteria in there.

Thanks for the good question and I hope the best for your dad.

Has he had a second opinion for diagnosis?  Some spider bites can do that; as well as venous status ulcers.  Mallow would help with soothing either and help with healing.  If it is a bite; then calendula would be great for the antimicrobial properties as well.
