I have a friend that is miscarrying her baby. She doesn’t want to go through any sort of flushing out process and I was asked if there were herbs that could help her body naturally. I know this is a sensitive topic. Does anyone have any suggestions to make this process easier on her?

Kasia – Upfront I have not personally experienced miscarriage or worked with a client in this situation.  I read a lot of herbal books so I’m sharing educationally.  Please consult and research for yourselves, maybe this is a place to start.

If miscarriage is threatening, but the baby lives A. Romm discusses using black haw/cramp bark to settle contraction.  If the mother is experiencing hormonal imbalances Romm discusses maintaining progesterone with chaste berry.  M. Wood writes about the historical (and his clinical experience) using teasel or cleavers to maintain a threatened pregnancy or where the mother has previously experience multiple miscarriages.  These are external applications.

If the baby has passed, the mother’s body will recognize this and initiate delivery.  S. Weed writes about this circumstance where an older doctor only recommended time.  It gives your friend a chance to make room in her heart, room in the family, and room on the earth for the baby.  Current systems don’t always allow for natural time before inducing, but I hope your friend can have the experience of her choosing.  Please share my sympathies with her.  -Dee
