Homestead InstructorSteven and I and our lovely wives spent the day yesterday in Rock Creek Canyon in the South Hills of Southern Twin Falls County, ID.
Herbs we saw/collected:
Burdock
Catnip
Nettles (one immature little rascal stung me while I was trying to figure out who he was)
Teasel
Clematis
Juniper
Mullein
Gumweed
Elder
Crane’s Bill
Oregon Grape
Balsalmroot
What else was there Steven?
I’ll post some pictures later.
Patrick

You have GOT to tell that story in it’s own thread in the Herb Medicine forum.

We also saw
Primrose (I am 100% convinced Patrick. Cross check against the plants here)
This was a GREAT trip spent with GREAT friends and for a GREAT reason other than the herbs. This is what Renee wanted to do for our 33rd anniversary outing.
Great friends
Great scenery
Great herbs
I am going to start a separate thread on one part of our trip because I believe it is too important to get buried in this one.
Link no longer works. If I remember where it went I will fix.

Here are a couple more plants that I remember seeing:
Strawberry
Horsetail (Equisetum laevigatum)
Choke Cherry
Willow
False Soloman Seal ( I am NOT certain on this one )
The Choke Cherry brings up another point when going to a remote location to harvest. Read your material ahead of time and be aware of what you might be seeing. Write down the list and bring the books you need to ID. We totally missed bringing home some cherry bark because we were not familiar with this species. Now we have to go back to get some, DARN DARN DARN DARN DARN!!! 😆

Homestead InstructorTopic AuthorEven more important…
Be aware of the other names of the plants you love. I’ve been using “Wild Cherry” Bark for years…always purchased, never gathered. I had no idea “Choke Cherry” was another name for the same.
