I am allergic to the daisy family, and wish I could take some of the wonderful herbs from it. Would taking an antihistamine herb alongside an herb from the daisy family counteract the reaction and “teach” my body not to create so many histamines with those particular herbs?

I don’t know about that, but some people have had good results by eating raw honey specific to their locale (find a beekeeper in your community).  As for being allergic to a specific class of plants or a food, and not being able to ingest something, view the lecture on the immune system.  Patrick talks about allergies, and mentions that while there are things we can do to help us recover from an immune response, the immune system doesn’t forget.  If it did, we could theoretically cure autoimmune diseases and allergies to foods, medicines, plants, and other things.  The best we can do is 1) avoid allergens to the best of our abilities, and 2) suppress the immune response to things we are allergic to, and 3) assist the body in recovering from its over-zealous immune response.

Yup. Michelle is correct. Anti-histamines are a symptomatic solution. They won’t teach your body to behave.

Don't use herbs or combine herbs with medications or use them during lactation or pregnancy without talking with your healthcare provider.

I was hoping to find something to help my adult daughter who has mast cell activation disorder. She is allergic to EVERYTHING! I am just starting my herb journey and need to learn a lot- but I’m wondering as I search and learn if there are any herbs or forms of herbs ie: the tinctures vs the whole herb that might work, or that this herb route will just never work for her.

                    Hi Lori,

Have a look at the immune system lessons. We talk about allergies there. There are a lot of herbs that can decrease  histamines production or response . Nettles and Brigham tea would be worth a try.

I talk about mast cells and histamines in this video.

Don't use herbs or combine herbs with medications or use them during lactation or pregnancy without talking with your healthcare provider.

My adult daughter also has MAST cell and is allergic to everything. She is very limited in what she can eat. I am also searching for natural ways to detox and heal her. She is very afraid to try new things because of the health/medical trauma she has experienced. The fear is debilitating for her healing.
