This is a movie about 8 individuals who choose to spend 30 days in the Amazon jungle with native shaman (herbalists) to see if they can be cured of their chronic problems. It is quite interesting.

After watching the movie, please share your thoughts here.

I really enjoyed this film…well worth watching. There is some use of hallucinogenic plants that is part of the amazonian tradition that may raise a few eyebrows, but overall it was a great piece.

The two points I thought were really important were how much emphasis they put on the diet and how much emphasis they put on sorting out your personal/emotional baggage. Those two elements are, in my opinion, as important (maybe more important???) than the medicinal plants.

The other thing that was obviously going on was that poking folks into the middle of the rain forest where there were no schedules, cell phones, meetings, deadlines, traffic etc… shifted their bodies from a sympathetic, fight or flight, condition into a parasympathetic condition. This is also a huge plus to healing. I try to achieve this as one of the fundamentals whenever I’m working with a client. Modern Americans are adrenaline junkies and it’s killing us. Buy a hammock and relax once a while. 🙂

I have a hammock next to my wood stove and spend significant amounts of time in it since I have no typical American living room furniture. I slept in a hammock for over two years, in an unheated porch. I put a feather mattress in the bottom and my covers were a down duvet with more layers on top. It was like a cocoon, and some of the best sleeping ever. 🙂 I agree… everyone should have a hammock. 🙂

I don’t very often have the option to watch videos, but since my new month begins tomorrow, I decided to go ahead and use any remaining data and see how far I could get… so I just began watching the video. I have a policy that if bad language is used, I stop right there and don’t watch any more. Unfortunately, due to offensive language, I won’t finish watching the video, and I can’t recommend it to others. I figure if someone doesn’t have what I consider common courtesy and respect, I can probably find someone who is saying the same or a similar thing with grace and poise and without the expletives. 🙁
