This is really a generalized question, but it’s being prompted cuz I’m currently hobbled with plantar fasciitis and I realllllly dislike the idea of continuing to use OTC NSAIDS which have brought some relief.

(Yes, I’m doing all the right things for this affliction- ice, stretches, bandages…..don’t go there.)

So instead of …say…Aleve pills, what could I have in my apothecary as a general substitute for the anti-inflammatory action and effectiveness of these pharmaceuticals?

I’d like to stock up on whatever it is.

        Thanks!

        Martha

My husband suffers from this. I would also like a few suggestions.

Mugwort (Artemisia vulgaris, Ludoviciana, Douglasiana) is an excellent anti inflammatory. Not an analgesic, but it is a powerful anti-inflammatory.

Fundog, I went to Sir Google and inquired of several sites about the herbal actions of mugwort and anti-inflammatory wasn’t mentioned.

              Hmmmmm……

Thanks for offering the idea. I learned some new stuff.

Hi Martha, I learned about mugwort (also referred to as Estafiate) in Michael Moore’s book, “Medicinal Herbs of the Mountain West.”

In that book, Moore’s research implies mugwort could be helpful in managing autoimmune conditions, as well as other inflammatory problems.

“Estafiate” is a popular garden plant among my Hispanic neighbors, used to comfort folks with everything from coughs to lady problems. The bitter properties also make mugwort a helpful digestive herb.
