I have a small amount of Wormwood.  The strain is an ornamental cultivar called “Powis Castle,” aka, “Silver Sage.” (It seems several of the wormwoods are called “Silver Sage,” lol) It smells faintly reminiscent of lavender, so that’s pleasant.  I normally use Mugwort or Estafiate orally.  I was wondering if all the wormwoods work pretty much the same way, for the same conditions, or if they specialize for different things?  If nothing else, I can make a lovely lotion out this stuff– maybe it will be helpful at making me taste bad to the bitey bugs this summer, lol.

There are some significant differences from species to species sometimes. Common names are almost useless in the Artemisia genus. Everyone is wormwood.

Are some of them poisonous?  I have a big one that came up in one of my tirestacks and I’m hesitant to pull it out till I know for sure.  It is Artemisia something.

I don’t know of any poisonous wormwoods, but a few varieties do have higher concentrations of Thujone, which can be toxic in excessive amounts, or long term.  You’ll have to do some research to find out which ones are big thujone producers, since I don’t know off the top of my head.

Yup. Thujone can be a problem at high levels or long term. And, frankly, some of them really are just too nasty tasting to take internally.
