I’m working on this muscle liniment, and want to add arnica to the mix. In reading Michael Moore’s book, I find that much of the arnica used in the US is actually Heterotheca inuloides, or Mexican Arnica. A lot of companies label it as Arnica and people buy it thinking that is what they are getting. The price of real Arnica Montana is $80.00 a pound (and that is with the discount), vs less than $20.00 a pound for the imitation. However, in reading on line, Heterotheca inuloides has medicinal qualities that are very similar to Arnica Montana, so many people feel it is OK to swap it out, and just call it Arnica.

My question for any of you out there with more experience than I; can you tell a difference when using one over the other? Does it matter? Or is it more about being a puritan? Any advice is welcomed.

I’m afraid I’m no help on this one. I do trust Moore though. You won’t go wrong following his recommendation on it.

Don't use herbs or combine herbs with medications or use them during lactation or pregnancy without talking with your healthcare provider.
