StudentFirst, yes, I raise bees. I was working with my bees two days ago and they decided they didn’t like me. Yes, I was suited up, but they can sting through if they are really wanting to and they did. I am going to get a better suit.
I got stung many times. The sting its self does not really hurt other than it is physiologically damaging. My problem is the after affects. Everywhere they stung me I now have huge welts and they itch and burn.
What I need is more ideas on possible treatment.
I have been putting Plantain ointment and Arnica ointment on them and it is helping but I need more ideas. I finally resorted to hydrocortisone cream in hopes that it would help….bad idea. More burn. I took benadryl, yes desperate, another bad idea. Didn’t help. Turned my brain to fuzz.
I am probably developing allergies to the sting, not happy about that.
I am eating the honey they produce in hopes of building up my system. But for now the problem is real.
Any suggestion? Sooner the better. My ankles look like tree trunks. My arm looks like I burned it and my back, well need I say more?

Homestead InstructorInitially, in the absence of an allergic response, raw plantain is quite good. It sounds to me like your dealing with a more systemic/allergic response.
The only real antihistamine we have in our herbal arsenal is Brigham tea. The other tack would be to support the liver’s efforts to eliminate the histamines. So I would go with burdock, oregon grape, yellow dock, dandelion etc…
I’d also take plantain internally (don’t ever heat plantain at all or it will be destroyed) as well as cleavers to help clear the toxins. Drink lots of water and let the plantain and cleavers (or parsley or celery) encourage your kidneys to eliminate the edema.

StudentTopic AuthorGood news, your suggestions have assisted in me taking a HUDGE turn for the better!!! I have Burdock tincture, I took some of that. I am glad I tested before I took too much. My body only wanted a few drops. I was ready to drink the whole bottle. (not a good idea) Powerful stuff. I drank a lot of water and soaked in soda water as you suggested. The itching and burning have, at this moment completely gone. Yea! I will be able to sleep. Itching and burning and sleeping do not go in the same bundle. I am not happy with having this learning opportunity but I must admit I have learned more about herbs with this experience.
One other thing I did yesterday, when I thought I would go crazy with the itching, was cover the affected areas with honey. The burning and itching did stop but only temporarily. I will take sticky clothes over itching and burning. The other thing I did was eat honey I had spun from the hive last summer. It may not have helped, who knows, but it sure did taste good.
Thanks Doc Jones! :yahoo:
