StudentGood afternoon,
I have 2 roosters with some black spots on their combs. I don’t know if they’ve been fighting, maybe dry fowl pox (I never saw white or yellow spots on the comb prior to this showing up.) or something else. Do you have any suggestions for me to put on this or add to feed? Is there anything you would suggest adding to feed to help bolster the flock’s immune system in general? Hope this question is ok. I’m a newbie. Thanks in advance. Looking forward to learning a lot!

StudentTopic AuthorI’ve found some other birds with spots and I did see some white areas too, but they seem to be going away quickly. I added garlic, lavender, oregano and mint to their water. I knew it shouldn’t hurt them and might help. Since doing that any of the others that got the spots have seemed much smaller and going away quickly. I’m just changing it daily and keeping it in the water for now.

Herbs work well in Chickens. I often use The Immunity Support formula on them. If it’s a bacterial infection I add some of the INFXN-BugBuster, If it’s Viral, I add the INFXN-ShooFlooDon't use herbs or combine herbs with medications or use them during lactation or pregnancy without talking with your healthcare provider.

Our chickens have had the black spots on their combs also, especially in the wet, hot and humid days in south Florida. We planted a Moringa oleifera tree near the coop and feed the leaves to the chickens as a special treat regularly and we did not have black spots on their combs this year. Hoping that stays true year after year.

StudentThyme, Sage and Oregano are good for supporting the chicken’s immune system.
As far as the black spot on the rooster’s comb my best guess is that the roosters are fighting. My “loser” rooster has black spots where the other rooster has pecked him.
